Years on the NLS team: 1999–2012
Role: I did a bit of everything, from making sure that the outstanding NLS contractors got paid, to working with the U.S. Office of Management and Budget to get approval for the surveys, to reviewing and editing respondent materials, to helping researchers get access to geocoded NLS data.
The NLS has collected so much interesting, innovative data over the years. During my time with the program (1999–2012), I helped to work through the bureaucracy within the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Office of Management and Budget to advocate for those innovations and ensure they received the necessary approvals.
There are many reasons to be proud of the NLS team's work. The top reason in my mind is that the NLS program is a wonderful example of cooperation across government agencies and partnership between government and the academic research community.
