Years on the NLS team: 1999-present
Role: I have worked as the NORC survey director for the NLSY79 since 1999 overseeing field data collection and on the NLSY97 since 2002 in the same capacity.
I have been involved in several field innovations including moving to significantly enhanced remote training and certification with on-line tutorials, videos, and interactive sessions; augmenting respondent materials with website videos, data visualization, and updated NLS facts; providing interviewers with GPS and mapping software, smartphones, and texting capabilities to improve their communication and work efficiency; expanding locating techniques to include social media; and most recently testing time tracking and time use programs in the field.
I am proud to be part of a project that continues to strive for the best ways to provide critical data to inform policy. One of the team's greatest accomplishments is the sustained high response rate on each of the active cohorts.
