Years on the NLS team: 1983-1987

Role: I was the PI of the NLS, which, when I began, consisted of the original four cohorts and the '79 youth cohort.

What innovations have I helped introduce to the NLS

My impact on the NLS project is minor compared to the impact of the NLS on my professional career (see my entry as a researcher). I am most proud of the fact that, through the efforts of many people, the survey of the children of the women respondents in the '79 youth cohort was begun under my tenure.

Why am I proud to be part of the NLS team

There is no praise sufficient to describe the dedication of the NLS staff that I encountered during my tenure as PI. Many, if not most, of the staff I worked with during my brief period as PI have since retired or moved on. Their joint contribution to the NLS is the legacy of a national treasure.
